The Transfiguration

The Transfiguration

Matthew 17 Six days later Jesus took Peter and the two brothers, James and John, and led them up a high mountain to be alone. 2 As the men watched, Jesus’ appearance was transformed so that his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as light.

Jesus reveals some of his glory during the Transfiguration. This occurs after Peter testifies to Jesus being the Messiah (the Messianic Secret”). Jesus time on Earth is growing shorter, but his purpose becomes more clear as Jesus has already let his disciples know that he must suffer and die. As Christ, Jesus is the anointed one who is glorified in all of the worlds!

(From the NIV Study Bible:
The transfiguration was: (1) a revelation of the glory of the Son of God, a glory hidden now but to be fully revealed when he returns (2Th 1:10); (2) a confirmation of Peter’s confession (16:13–20); and (3) a beneficial experience for the disciples, who were discouraged after having been reminded so recently of Jesus’ impending suffering and death (16:21).)

Hebrews 1:1 Long ago God spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom he also created the worlds. He is the reflection of God’s glory and the exact imprint of God’s very being, and he sustains all things by his powerful word.
